Tire Buying Guides
Dunlop is one of Europe’s oldest names in tires, being founded way back in 1888 by Scots veterinary surgeon and inventor John Boyd Dunlop, the man who actually invented the pneumatic tire (albeit for bicycle tires originally). Today, it falls under the Ohio-based Goodyear, offering buyers a family of tires that benefit from Goodyear’s engineering, production, and distribution resources. The Grandtrek family of tires for light trucks and SUVs is designed in collaboration with major automakers; these are next-generation tires whose design is centered around the weight, power, torque, center of gravity, and overall driving dynamics of this generation of trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. Let’s take a little closer look at what the Dunlop Grandtrek product family is all about:
The Grandtrek AT20 is a durable, dependable all-season tire that’s designed to sacrifice nothing when it comes to ride quality, low noise, sharp handling, and road manners on the pavement. Dunlop’s VersaLoad design package enhances handling, control, ride quality, and wear properties, with a multi-pitch tread design that helps keep road noise low by canceling certain frequencies and overtones via computer modeling. The Dimensionally Stable Polyester casing helps the Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 retain a perfectly round shape through the life cycle of the tire for a refined ride and capable handling. The semi-aggressive all-terrain tread design with a dense network of sipes and circumferential grooves delivers great performance on the highway or in mild off-road conditions, diverting water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning, and a continuous center rib gives the Grandtrek AT20 great straight-line stability and quick steering response. Dunlop covers the Grandtrek AT20 with a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty.
The Dunlop Grandtrek AT23 is designed as a premium all-season tire for light trucks; it’s designed with circumferential grooves and a network of sipes for an M+S rating for mud/snow traction. Wide grooves help route water away from the tire’s contact patch to mitigate hydroplaning on wet roads, and the Grandtrek AT23’s rubber formulation helps deliver confident wet-weather performance as well as great wear properties. The 5-pitch tread design is computer-tuned to help keep road noise to a minimum, and the Grandtrek AT23 incorporates Dunlop’s VersaLoad and Dimensionally Stable Polyester design packages for durability, ride quality, and control. The result is a tire that’s a great fit for luxury and high-end SUVs and crossovers, with confident year-round performance.
For the Grandtrek Touring A/S, Dunlop built on the success of their all-season light truck tires and fine-tuned them for even better ride quality, handling, and lower noise levels. The Grandtrek Touring A/S features an advanced silica-rich tread compound that helps lower rolling resistance to save at the gas pump while delivering enhanced wet-weather traction and great wear properties. Its asymmetric all-season tread is divided into two segments, with the inboard side dedicated to dry-weather traction and the outboard side designed for wet roads. Jointless Band Technology gives the Dunlop Grandtrek Touring A/S great high-speed stability and handling, and that next-gen tread compound is engineered to stay flexible in subfreezing weather for improved winter performance. Select sizes of the Grandtrek Touring A/S are available with run-flat technology, a reinforced sidewall design that can allow a driver to go up to another 50 miles at up to 50 mph even in the event of complete tire failure and loss of inflation pressure.
With its asymmetric all-season tread, the Dunlop Grandtrek ST30 is designed for versatile performance year-round. The Grandtrek ST30 includes Dunlop’s Multi-Pitch Tread Design technology for low noise and Jointless Band design that helps the tire keep its shape through its entire life cycle for improved control and ride quality. The continuous center rib of the Grandtrek ST30 helps with solid straight-line stability on the highway as well as steering response that’s light and precise. This premium all-season tire is featured as OEM by several automakers.
In addition to these great tires, the Dunlop Grandtrek family also includes:
